**Pachmayr Signature Model Customized Colt MKIV Series 70 Pistol
.45 ACP. 4" barrel. SN: 70G06683 (mfg. ca. 1971). Stainless steel finish, Pachmayr checkered wrap around rubber grips. Single action Browning design tilting barrel semi-automatic pistol customized by Pachmayr. Pachmayr features include a shortened slide and barrel, Pachmayr patented short dust cover with slide stop, integral slide bushing, custom recoil plug, Commander style hammer, dehorned Bomar adjustable rear sight and red insert blade front sight. Other features include a checkered flat mainspring housing, a finely serrated rear of the slide and a grooved adjustable aluminum trigger. At a time when the Colt Commander was just coming into production, the only way to obtain a "chopped and channeled" compact 1911 for concealed carry was to have one built by a custom gunsmith like Pachmayr. These custom reduced profile guns were extremely popular in the 1970s and 1980s for anyone who carried a gun for a living, particularly those looking for a gun for discrete carry or as a back up to a full size duty weapon. In a day when compact carry guns are a major part of the firearms industry's market, these custom guns from 40+ years ago are somewhat anachronistic but show where many of the features that are considered essential in a top quality carry pistol originated. A neat piece of firearms development history and extremely collectible. Includes a single Wilson-Rogers magazine. {C&R}
